She had just given birth to her second child about seven years ago when she got a flyer in the mail for a special massage promotion at a nearby MassageLuXe location. She knew it was time to refocus on wellness. After visiting, she was hooked and became a member. At a point in life when she was searching for great investments, MassageLuXe was top-of-mind for years.
“I couldn’t get the thought out of my head,” said Colleen. “I kept searching for reasons not to buy a spa. I would put the idea of owning a franchise on the back burner for a while and just think, ‘Maybe not now… but some day!’”
Colleen wanted to find the right time to buy in. As a busy mother, she decided she’d wait until her children were older when perhaps she would have more time to split her focus between her career and franchise ownership. Then, something rare happened, and she felt it was a sign. An established MassageLuXe franchise went up for sale in her community, so she jumped at the opportunity to bypass a buildout and jump into ownership immediately. She took over as the franchisee of the MassageLuXe in Troy, Michigan in September 2019. “No one had to convince me; I knew this was a great fit for me.”
MassageLuXe is enjoying rapid growth as a premier day spa that provides the highest quality massage, facial and waxing services. The franchise pioneered the membership revenue model, which provides regular services at affordable prices for customers, and a steady, reliable revenue stream for franchisees.
Colleen couldn’t have picked a better time to join the health and wellness industry, and she’s an eyewitness to increasing consumer demand for spa services. “Massage isn’t just a luxury indulgence anymore,” Colleen says. “Focusing on overall health and wellness is a priority for people now more than ever, and it starts by taking care of our bodies and minds.”
Providing a relaxing space and quality services for her loyal customers is very satisfying for Colleen. “I’ve been in customer service most of my career which really prepared me for being a MassageLuXe franchisee. I get how important it is to connect with your customers and your team. I have a great manager to run my store and our priority is customer satisfaction.”
Colleen is not unlike other MassageLuXe franchisees who are able to continue working their fulltime job while enjoying the benefits of franchise ownership.
“I still feel like I have plenty left to accomplish in my fulltime job, so this is the best of both worlds,” Colleen, a single mom to a 9- and 7-year-old, says. “It requires some careful time management skills and determination. But I am very passionate about this company. I believe in it, and that keeps me going on stressful days. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, and I’ve got more in me.”
Now celebrating her two-year anniversary at her Troy location, the Michigan native looks toward the future, with plans to open two more MassageLuXe locations in Michigan. “Unlike my first spa which was established in the community, I am building the next two from the ground up, and I can’t wait to open the doors to customers. I work hard to support my children, and MassageLuXe is a great investment in their future.”
And is she still a loyal customer? “Well yes! I practice what I preach,” Colleen says. “I strive every day to create balance as a mom and businesswoman, while still prioritizing self-care that helps me put my best foot forward in each role.”
